Questioning Art

Dave Johnson for Are We There Yet?

Are We There Yet? is a responsive sound installation, shown at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, that uses a collection of hundreds of questions from history, literature and pop culture to encourage visitors to reflect on the process of questioning.

Visit Are We There Yet?

One Who Does Not Ask, Does Not Know

The installation generates a unique auditory experience for each visitor using new robotic vision algorithms and software that allow cameras to instantly adapt and spatialize audio to the movements of each person.

Questions were asked via a series of voice recordings by familiar personalities such as KQED’s Michael Krasny and NPR’s Laura Sydell. Gallery visitors were able to propose and submit new questions before and during the show via the show's website, an iPhone/iPad application and an in-gallery kiosk.
